Fiction

Fiction is the form of any narrative or informative work that deals, in part or in whole, with information or events that are not factual, but rather, imaginary and theoretical—that is, invented by the author. Although fiction describes a major branch of literary work, it may also refer to theatrical, cinematic, or musical work. Fiction contrasts with non-fiction, which deals exclusively with factual (or, at least, assumed factual) events, descriptions, observations, etc. (e.g., biographies, histories).

Nineteen Eighty-Four (sometimes 1984) is a darkly satirical political novel by George Orwell. The story takes place in a nightmarish dystopia, in which an ever-surveillant State enforces perfect conformity among citizens through indoctrination, fear, lies and ruthless punishment. The bulk of the novel was written on the island of Jura, Scotland in the year 1948 (although Orwell had written small parts of it since 1945), and it was first published on June 8, 1949. It is Orwell's most famous work, and is the inspiration of the word "Orwellian".

Desert solitaire - Edward Abbey
SKU: ds/384/000
Desert solitaire. A season in the wilderness by Edward Abbey.

When Desert solitaire was first published in 1968 it became the focus of a nationwide cult. Thought-provoking and mystical. Angry and loving.here the legendary author of the monkey wrench can, and many other critically acclaimed books, vividly captures the essence of his life during three seasons as a park ranger in southeastern Utah. This is a rare view of a quest to experience nature in its purest form-the silence, the struggle, the overwhelming beauty.but this is also gripping and which cry of a man of character, who challenges the growing exploitation of the wilderness by oil and mining interests as well as the tourist industry.

These observations and challenges remain as relevant now as the day he wrote them. Today, Desert solitaire asks any of the cultural and natural treasures can be saved befor the bulldozers strike again.

Edward Albey was born in home in Pennsylvania in 1927. He was educated at University of New Mexico, and the University of Edinburgh. He died at his home in Oracle, Arizona, in 1989.

Grimm's Fairy Tales eBook
SKU: gft/ebook/000
Binding: Zip file

The Brothers Grimm, Jacob (1785-1863) and Wilhelm (1786-1859), were

born in Hanau, near Frankfurt, in the German state of Hesse.
Throughout their lives they remained close friends, and both studied
law at Marburg University. Jacob was a pioneer in the study of German
philology, and although Wilhelm's work was hampered by poor health the
brothers collaborated in the creation of a German dictionary, not
completed until a century after their deaths. But they were best (and
universally) known for the collection of over two hundred folk tales
they made from oral sources and published in two volumes of 'Nursery
and Household Tales' in 1812 and 1814. Although their intention was to
preserve such material as part of German cultural and literary
history, and their collection was first published with scholarly notes
and no illustration, the tales soon came into the possession of young
readers. This was in part due to Edgar Taylor, who made the first
English translation in 1823, selecting about fifty stories 'with the
amusement of some young friends principally in view.' They have been
an essential ingredient of children's reading ever since.

The Ultimates Noah's Ark
SKU: una/500/000
This picture book portrays the biblical story, "Noah's Ark". The accompanying text lists each animal represented in the painting, and gives background information about their habitats, size and breeding habits, as well as pointers to their appearance. The text also provides details about the folklore or mythology of the animals. In keeping with the original story Mike Wilks paints 707 creatures (353 pairs of each sex), but one single creature has been painted one, without its mate. The mystery of the painting, and the object of the competition, is to find and name a solitary beast, thereby restoring the harmony and balance to the picture. Some pairs of animals are easy to spot while others are concealed in all manner of guises. The painting demands observers to see the animals and see things for what they really are.
